A useful LinkedIn headline answers three questions quickly: what role do you support, what can you do, and where does that experience fit? Run these five checks before you publish.
Lead with the exact target role
Use the exact role phrase you genuinely support, such as “Senior Product Manager,” near the beginning. Avoid broad labels when a specific role better reflects your direction.
Add 2–3 credible skills or tools
Choose the skills, methods, or tools that matter most for the role and that your experience can prove. A short, focused set is stronger than a crowded keyword list.
Include useful industry context
Add context such as B2B SaaS, healthcare, fintech, or consumer marketplaces when it helps a recruiter understand where your experience fits.
Replace generic adjectives
Trade words like passionate, dynamic, and results-driven for concrete role, skill, tool, or outcome language a recruiter may actually search.
Never invent credentials
Every title, certification, skill, and claim must be supported by your real background. Optimize the language—not the truth.
ILLUSTRATIVE BEFORE / AFTER
Specific beats generic.
Before: Passionate marketing leader driving results and innovation
After: B2B Growth Marketing Manager | SaaS Demand Generation | Lifecycle, ABM & Revenue Growth
The after version names a supported target role, credible disciplines, and useful industry context. Use only terms your own experience supports.
